It seems like there’s a huge painting curtains/rugs/pillows/you name it trend going on in the blog/Pinterest world so we wanted to give it a shot! You may have noticed our kitchen curtain from the reveal, which was what we decided to tackle!
As we have mentioned, we are renting this home and are looking for ways to add fun details on a major budget. For this project, the curtain rod was already up (one of the cheap white metal ones) so we did not have to spend money there, but you can find one on the cheap at almost any Walmart/Meijer/Target/etc. store!
We picked up the plain tan valance from Walmart for $6-7 and chose to purchase one instead of two to make it more “curtain” looking than crammed valance that does nothing but collect dust. Plus, if all else failed and it looked funny, we could always buy a second one. Sold.
Admittedly, it did hang up on the window for quite some time paint-less, but when we finally tackled the project, we were laughing at how quick it went and how much sooner we should’ve done it. Always happens, huh?
The process was simple- my kind of project! I’m a big polka-dots fan (don’t judge) so I broke out a circle foam brush, some white paint and went to town. I am terrible at simple math wasn’t in the measuring mood so I eyeballed where each dot should go, then just went row by row adding them in!
We needed to add two coats to most of the dots since the sunlight streaming in would’ve pointed out their flaws, but it dried fast and we had a new curtain in no time! Tip- put something underneath your work space in case you’re risky like us- we used the kitchen floor and had polka dots painted on it as well when we picked up our dried curtain (oops!) Luckily Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is my favorite tool ever, and he cleaned up our floor in a snap. I don’t know what’s in those things, but they are my go-to and deserve multiple thumbs up. Hip-hip-hurray!
In face, this curtain project was so easy, we may try to paint something else soon! Stay tuned…
Prost to polka dots and simple projects to personalize rentals : )
