So todays post was going to be about the pretty mums we’ve planted and our front porch we dubbed our little bistro, but it’s raining! Tut tut. So, instead we’re going to show you the other type of shower. Our bathroom reveal! Sorry-that’s-corny. This reveal we’re actually pretty excited about, because with a little paint and a trip to the hardware store, we had a brand new looking bathroom!
First, let’s start with where we’re at on the floor plan, and the state of the loo when we first moved in.
Got to love the paneling and vanity that was painted over with one quick coat of primer and the builder mirrors galore. Not to mention those acrylic towel holders that I’ll spare you a close up of since they were anything but clean. Also, can you see in the 2nd picture that there is a small piece of trim in the center of the wall but it’s not anywhere else in the room? That’s because there’s actually TWO types of paneling and they chose to make it less obvious by separating it with it. So, with our list in hand, off to the store we went!
We needed: paint! new towel holder & tp holder, new mirror, shelf, similar trim, new toilet seat (because rental or owning, you should always change that right away) and a few decor items!
Ready, set, go.
Here’s our after : )
As you can see, we went with a brushed nickel for the finish on the hardware, and an antique silver mirror to add a mixture finishes to the existing silver faucet/shower. We added trim around the whole bathroom to make it look cohesive, and painted the top portion of the walls a soft blue. The bottom of the walls got a fresh coat of white, as well as the vanity. We replaced the long skinny mirror on the side wall (which I will not show you pictures of when we took it off because I nearly lost my own cookies, you’re-welcome) with some mirrors from IKEA and hung the shelf up above the toilet.
This shelf is a huge help in such a small bathroom, and we find ourselves “decorating” it and changing it around often. Here’s what we were working with this summer,
Love love love being in a home where we can pick fresh flowers daily!
And here’s what we’re working with currently:
Insane in the membrane. We know. We found a picture of the three sisters heading into a hotel pool when we were babies and knew it would be cute here.
This remodel may or may not be suitable for most renters depending on your landlord, but for less than $100, this whole project definitely adds to the space! We plan on leaving the shelf and towel/tp holders, but will take the mirrors and our decor.
Random tip- our mom used to make us do this to paint any bedroom or bathroom growing up… once you find a few paint swatches that you like, hold them up to the side of your face! You’d be surprised at how the different undertones reflect in your complexion. Think about it- if you are getting ready in this room each and every day, you want a color that compliments you, not brings out yellows/pinks in your skin. We all have that one color of clothing that “pops” on us for a different reason, so why should paint be any different? We may sound crazy, but it helps insure only half of our days are “oh my gosh I look terrible/bad hair day/my make up doesn’t look right” instead of all of them. Oh, and unfortunately, the black is slimming rule does not apply here. Womp.
Happy Friday y’all!
Prost : )
