Chalkboard Chargers

Welcome back to the chalkboard-paint-fest! As promised, here is the 2nd of 2 entertaining posts. After we completed our coasters and our vintage ironing board we moved onto one more project, chalkboard chargers! Sounds a bit funny, I know, but we thought they would be cute to spice up the table and actually be functional as well as decorative.

We started off with these gold ones purchased at a thrift store for cheap.

Although gold is all the trend these days, these were not very pretty straight off the thrift store shelf. So after bringing them home and giving them a good cleaning session, we spray painted them the same way as our coasters and waited for them to dry!

Now for the functional part, we wrote our menu on the outside perimeter of each charger and placed one at each spot at the table!

For more table decor, we added a cloth napkin tied with a ribbon to create a bow shape.

Our center piece was a mix of two fall flowers in a variety of clear jars circled by wine corks on a silver platter to add some more metallics : )

To keep the theme going, we added some festive candles and gourds to the center of the table on top of a lace runner (a $0.50 garage sale find!). I’m in love with the multi-texture look… burlap and lace and metallics, oh my!

And underneath it all is this fabulous silver metallic dot burlap we picked up at Joann’s! Can’t wait to repurpose it in another fun way! Furniture reupholster? Pillows? I’m sure we will think of something…

And that’s the story of our simple chargers! We were also thinking that these could be a fun replacement for place cards at a fun friends or holiday dinner, or even as free kid-entertainment for any little ones. Just add some colorful chalk to their setting and let them go hog wild! Luckily chalk washes or brushes off of just about anything : )

When you’re ready to serve just add some dishes and you’re all set (the chalkboard paint we used is not food safe)! We eat buffet style so I didn’t add them before hand (our table is not quite big enough to serve off of), but that’s always an option depending on your event. To wash the chargers, we plan on using a dish soap and water to make sure none of the chalkboard paint washes off until we use them again!

Happy Friday and go MSU!

Prost!
