Well, it’s official! Pantone announced that the “it” color of the year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid!
I’ve been reading a few blogs over the past few weeks about the past colors and the 2014 predictions, and I have to admit, I LOVE this color! It’s so bold and cheery and actually reminds me of Paige with it’s warm jewel tone. I also love how if you’re decorating a room with this tone, it only adds to last years emerald color! No need to redecorate- just add it in and you’ve got yourself one heck of a space.
Just for fun, I decided to put together a mood board inspired by the radiant orchard color for a dining room/kitchenette area.
What do you think? I’m in love with the IKEA curtains- I mean it’s like they were in cahoots with Pantone when they were created, and I love the idea of the bar cart that opens up into a buffet. It has the perfect amount of storage and could be used in so many ways! If you added your own hardware it would definitely be the perfect entertaining piece for those who don’t have a huge space.
The chairs are from Target and again incorporate those bolder tones. The wine glasses were a bit of a splurge, but with those vintage etched details I think they’re completely worth it! Plain white dishes with a bit of fun with metallic cups keep the space grounded since the orchid color can be very vibrant, and who could turn down this West Elm farmhouse table.
I also love this light fixture from Overstock! I think it’s a great mix between masculine with the metals and feminine with the crystals. Plus, with the bright chairs and curtains surrounding it, the crystals should help reflect the color even more.
Basically what I’m saying is I love this color and am so excited to play with it in our home. Although purply-pinks are normally very feminine, I think the rich tone of this could be matched with things such as a rustic wood or metal and be man-approved. Of course, there are many tones of orchid that apply, but these are the ones that definitely stood out to me!
Plus, it would look good paired with some red wine. It’s all for the decor dear…
