January 29, 2014 Bedroom

Updated Guest Bedroom

It’s time! I already painted the room a pretty BM Edgecomb Gray and added our newest furniture makeover, the rocking chair, but today I’m sharing the whole kit-and-cabootle put together.

To recap, this room originally started out like all the others… a yellowed used-to-be-white paint and vertical blinds. Yippee. Then, when Paige moved in, it became her room with bright blue walls (Sherwin Williams Blissful Blue) with green and gold accents.

Confession: I actually posted a sneak peak picture of the room starting to come together on our twitter a few days ago… But, that’s not at all what the room looks like now. I tried to use a different color scheme than I’m “used to” and used gray, tan, green and coral as my concept. But, without purchasing all new items, it just wasn’t coming together as planned. Womp womp. Has this ever happened to you?

Warning: Cat pictures ahead. Deke was never allowed in this room since Paige was allergic to him and needed a non-cat room in case she was getting sneezy, so the minute she moved out and the door opened he claimed it as his since he was deprived for so long. I moved the bed around and he slept on it the whole time. I changed the decor, had to move around him sleeping. And then he yelled at me for taking too many pictures because I was bored changing the decor so many times so I stopped and left it as is until I decided on a final color scheme.

So back to the room, I decided to have a little fun with it and focus on two of the “it” colors this year: orchid purple and indigo blue. Variations of blue are all over my home, and purple is the only color in my bedroom, making this new color decision flow with the rest of the house. So, I tried, and I resorted back to what I like. Here’s how it turned out!

Since I’m working with a twin bed, I decided to push it up against the wall to act as a daybed. To be honest I probably won’t have too many guest actually staying here (most everyone is local) but it’s nice to have the option, even if it is a twin sized frame.

I added lots of pillows to amp up the fluffiness-factor (that’s a thing) picked up from Homegoods, Target and the rest were homemade, including the napkin pillows we showed last week!

The picture shelf stayed up where it was before, but I added a quote printed across the frames instead of busying the space up with photos. I’m not 100% convinced it’s staying, but it works for now.

I went double curtains on it (don’t start freaking out, they’re not rainbow colored) with a darker plum solid and light blue sheer. The colors don’t show up so well in the photos, but in person I swear they blend : )

Last but not least, our rocker and $5.23 clearance wooden key find at Target… sold! Those little red stickers are dangerous… I also added a basket with standard sized pillows and another blanket incase a guest does stay, they can easily use the daybed as a twin.

What do you think? Do you like Paige’s old blue bedroom or this new guest room better? Can you tell I’m slap happy?

Prost!

Sooo cute! I love the idea of turning the twin bed into a day bed. And I really like the color scheme, where did you get the comforter?

Thank you! I’m hoping we can actually use the room as more than just a guest bedroom since there’s a place to sit now : ) The comforter is a duvet from IKEA and was only around $15- so far it has held up great!

Love the makeover! I cannot believe you nabbed that wooden key for $5! Target is so dangerous, but those types of deals make me keep going back!

Thanks Katie! Oh my goodness Target is definitely dangerous. I feel like I single handedly keep them in business sometimes haha.
