Winning Master Bedroom Paint Color

Psst. If you follow us on Instagram (@sypsiedesigns) you’ve already gotten a sneak peak of this- Here’s the reveal!

And the winner between the three original colors for the master bedroom redo are… Drumroll please… Technically none of them! : )

After starring at the three test swatches we shared for a few days, it was decided that a gray-blue tone was the winner, but I wasn’t sold on either Misty Morn or Salt Glaze because one was too dark, and the other too light. Since they were next to each other on the same swatch, there was no obvious in-between solution. So, off to Home Depot I went to see if they could work some magic. Success! I had the Misty Morn swatch lightened by 50% (according to the paint pros it’s easier to lighten a color than darken one) in an attempt to find my perfect color, and I’m happy to say it worked!

This paint color is actually a Behr brand color, but I had it color matched to Glidden Duo, their version of Behr’s Premium Plus. It’s $10 cheaper, and to be honest worked just as well if not better for me! I did one coat of primer over the dark purple, and followed up with two coats of the Glidden paint in an eggshell finish. It’s also clearly Deke approved if anyone was concerned.

I love how the color has some chameleon-style dimension to it and looks more grayed out at night, yet bright and vibrant during the day.

The gray and white accent theme stayed the same (as when the room was SW’s Ash Violet) but the new lighter paint color makes the small room look so much brighter and happier.

I’ll be back later with a post about that headboard (update: headboard post can be found here)- but for now I’m just excited to see the room come together! Everything in the room either stayed (like the curtains & wood crates fronts) or taken from “shopping” around the house. The mirror was from the bathroom, the lamp we made and wood lantern from the living room, the drum shade from the office, and that blanket moves around everywhere with me. Michigan-winter-probs.

What do you think of the new paint? I’ve been inspired by so many pretty blue master bedrooms and am happy that this lightened color did the trick! Plus it’s custom, which makes everything sound much fancier of course : )

I love it! The whole room looks so great & pulled together. I’ve always wondered about asking the paint guys to customize colors. I do it myself all the time with craft paint, but it seems so much scarier in gallon form 🙂 I can’t wait to hear more about the headboard!

Thanks Mellissa! If all goes well it should be up later this week! The Home Depot people were super friendly about it! I started off the convo with okay I have about 40 questions for you and they just laughed and said ask away. Plus if I didn’t like it they could make it lighter or darker if I brought it back : )
