Today’s post might seem pretty minor- but it had such a big impact on the room that I wanted to share. Plus, I got a great deal that was worth practically throwing a parade. A curtain parade. Only in my dreams.
I know I haven’t given an official tour of the apartment, but that’s because I’m not done deciding what’s going where or what projects are happening next : ) Today, we’re moving into the bedroom where one of our two windows is. It’s large and brings in great natural light, despite being a garden apartment, but it’s cold and industrial looking to me.
And just to prove I’m not trying to take a bad picture on purpose, here’s a zoomed out version. Still pretty darn plain looking.
So, I’ve been on a discount curtain hunt for the last few weeks. I’ve contemplated DIYing them but found all of the fabric I liked was on the expensive side, and everything else I was hunting for on discount websites was still out of my price range. Then, one magical day at Marshalls, it happened. I was just minding my own business, walking down the clearance aisle, when I saw this pretty sticker.
$22 for two panels in the exact color green I was looking for? Say it aint so. The pattern is a touch on the feminine side for M, but with a deal like that in the perfect color, into the cart they went.
When I got home and decided that they were indeed the winners, M hopped up on a ladder and hung up the rod (from my last place- but was originally $15 from Target). I love using a L-square for this but forgot to take pictures of that part. Dang it. I’ll remember next time : )
A few minutes of playing with our new power tools, and we had curtains!
What do you think? I love how much cozier they make the window and the bedroom feel. Curtains are by far my favorite tip to make a rental feel more like home, and they’re not always cheap, so finding the perfect ones can be time consuming but definitely rewarding in my opinion.
The bedroom colors started out as yellow and gray, but I wanted to add one more layer of color, so green it was! I’m still playing around with how it’s going to end up, but that’s part of the fun!
The next part of the room I’d like to tackle is this corner… The chair needs something (although I’m in love with that pillow- another Marshalls find!) and I still need to decide what’s going on with that lamp. Both need some help to keep up with my new curtains and our dresser. Stay tuned!
And for one last before & after…

Dang – you may have just convinced me to go on a massive curtain hunt for 90% of our house! We’ve got blinds, but I’ve known we needed curtains. Your before and after is so dramatic I feel like I need them NOW. What a great find at Marshall’s!
Thanks Melissa! I may or may not be a throw pillow and curtain hoarder because of that exact reason. I’ve gone on I-need-to-cover-every-window shopping trips a time or two : ) They’re all just so fun!
These curtains look fabulous! The whole room does really. Where did you find your comforter? I have been on the hunt for a new one for a while.
Thank you so much! The comforter is a recent purchase (I’m pretty sure it’s still available!) from Target and we love it so far! It’s a thinner quilt that’s great for summer 🙂
Crazy what a difference some curtains can make huh? Love the new look and the curtains you found are perfect!
100% agree! Thanks Corey 🙂
