Todays project was inspired by three of my favorite things… coffee, sunlight and my bed. Can I get an amen. One of my favorite things to do on Saturday mornings is just sitting there with coffee and M talking about the weekend or any fun stories since the weekday stress finally has worn off. So, why not add a fun serving tray into the mix? You know. Totally necessary. To sit the coffee cup on. So I don’t spill. Not that I have. I have a white comforter. So that would be bad. But what if? Okay enough blabbering.
I started off with this round piece from Home Depot and stained it with tea then white vinegar and steel wool.
Next I added a few fun stencils in no particular order. (sorry- no pictures but just freehand until it looks right!) I used this IKEA rug as an inspiration. After that two coats of poly were added for protection from wear and tear, and coffee : )
After that all dried, it was time for the hardware! I picked up two handles at Home Depot and used the tape trick to drill perfect holes. Just put a piece of painters tape on the bottom of the handle and take a pencil/something sharp (preferably after you’ve had your coffee and are awake) and poke holes where the screws should go. Then just put the tape on your surface and drill away!
The screws that came with the hardware had a rounded top that I did not want snagging or scratching anything it was set on, so I took a drill and a bit that was slightly larger than the head of the screw, and drilled about halfway through the wood. This allows the screw head to nestle up in the tray out of site.
Pour a second cup of coffee, and enjoy!
Easy peasy, and beyond sturdy. Now before I go sit in bed and have another cup of coffee get back to work, make sure you pop over to any of our social media pages (links below)- I’m making a HUGE (for me & for Sypsie) announcement and our social friendsĀ get the first sneak peak at it! More details to come on the blog tomorrow! Eeeek! I’m beyond excited if you couldn’t tell… Go check it out : )
