Vintage Door Knob Hooks

Happy Wednesday! Today we’re participating in a fun Drab to Fab challenge where 6 of us bloggers all got to do a little unique shopping, and then a little crafting. You can guess why I was excited to participate- those are two of my favorite things!

The rules were simple- We had budget and timing guidelines to find something at a thrift store or yard sale and package it up for the mailman to bring to the next blogger to make into something amazing. I was overly excited to see what would end up in our mailbox, and I was even more overly excited when I opened this!

Aren’t they absolutely amazing? It’s next to impossible to find these types of treasures in stores near me, so these had my Pinterest brain spinning. Right now I’m working on finishing up our master closet (a little later than I’d like, but it’s almost there! Will officially be sharing next week!) and decided that they would work perfect in there. I wanted to keep them as is since each one was different, so Matt and I headed to the garage one night to see what we had to work with.

We decided on a piece of plywood (leftover from the closet- ironic) cut to allow about 2″ on each side, and a thin piece of trim, mitered to frame the wood.

The plywood got a coat of stain (Minwax’s Special Walnut) and the trim got a few coats of a flat white spray paint.

While that was drying, the knobs got glued to the back plate using a few different adhesives. I think plain ol’ superglue ended up working the best, but we wanted to try multiple options just incase!

After everything was all ready to go, the knobs got screwed onto the plywood frame using small black screws and the trim got glued into place.

I wanted the knobs to be upside-down so that all of the fun detail of the backplate is still visible even with something hanging on it which is opposite of a lot of the projects I’ve seen, but I didn’t want all that goodness hiding behind anything : )

And that’s how it ended up! I can’t WAIT to get it up on our wall in the closet to hang my scarves on, and can’t wait to show you the whole space! Now, remember those 5 other bloggers I mentioned earlier? Make sure to visit their blogs to see what they did with their drab items!
