Ho.ly.smokes. it’s the last week before the big One Room Challenge reveal! If you’re just joining, be sure to check out our previous week updates 1, 2, 3 & 4 to get all of the details. As a refresher, this challenge is a 6 week challenge put on by Linda at Calling it Home for 20 design blogs and linking participants (us)! To check out their progress, take a peak at the list of design blogs and participants posted on Calling it Home!
This week we’re finishing up so many different parts of the room that I thought I’d just share a few snapshots as “teasers” for next weeks reveal! Short and sweet so the reveal is more fun for us to share : )
First off, lets start with a HUGE update! I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that M surprised me with an amazing birthday present. Here’s a little hint…
I’m in LOVE with it and can’t wait to show you! I came home from a family girls weekend to a toilet in the middle of the living room with a bow on it. As odd as that may sound, I was so crazy excited about it because we’ve been talking about replacing them since we moved in and realized how old and non-efficient they were (3.6 gallons per flush to be precise!). This is quickly turning into a TMI post. Anyways, I was very excited about it (we seem to be good at non-traditional gifts making each other happy, like the master closet I intro’d this week!) and went upstairs to check it out. That’s when I saw the second part of the birthday present, which was that amazing tile! I may be the only girl to ever say how lucky I am after my guy bought a toilet as my birthday gift, but I’m 100% okay with that haha : )
When I’m not petting the new tile, we’re also making some other progress on the room:
Trim is up and paint is on! I went with #10 which was… drumroll please… Behr’s Wheat Bread! I was leaning towards #9 which was the same tone but slightly more gray (BM’s Stonington Gray) but with the new gray tile, I wanted a little more contrast to make it stand out, so a beigey-gray it was. In person it’s such a warm color and turned out perfect, plus the Stonington Gray is what we have planned for the hallway, so it will still definitely be used!
The vanity has been getting a lot of attention (sorry- no bathroom mirror selfies right now!) since countertop is being refinished with concrete. Messy but so much fun to see the transformation happening!
I shared on Instagram about the DIY art being put together (old pastels for the win!). All three are knock offs of some West Elm art I found, so I’m curious to see what you guys will think of them!
We picked up this amazing waterfall faucet as an upgrade from our old crystal ball. I can’t wait to see it installed!
M also put together this custom towel rack when he did the tile and I love how much more functional it is for the space.
And that’s where we’re at right now. I can’t believe that this challenge is almost over (and how much work I feel like we have left to do- hence the title “Mad Dash!”) but I also can’t wait for next week to share the whole completed space! I can honestly say the room looks 100% different to us even mid-construction, and I’m so happy that we jumped in on this challenge!
Thanks for following along and if you’re participating I hope your last week is full of progress and pretty photos of your new space!

All of the little details are looking great! I’m excited to see it come together. I looooove that faucet. That’s the very one I’m trying to resist for my laundry room!
Thank you! It was definitely a splurge but we wanted something a little different- I can’t wait to see what it looks like once installed ha! If your resistance decides to give out, it would look fabulous in your room too : )
I love all the different elements! I can’t wait to see it come together for the final reveal! 🙂
Thanks so much Carrie! I can’t believe this is the final week already!
Great progress! Looking great–can’t wait for the reveal.
Thanks Alana : ) Can’t wait to share!
Ah those are the best kind of birthday presents! The floor looks great and I can’t wait to see that concrete counter in the reveal! Good luck with the last week:)))
Thanks Christine : ) So much left to do- can’t wait for it all to come together!
Cannot wait for the reveal! Looks great!
hope you didn’t find that concrete business too crazy hard….I love every bit of our counters and they are holding up so amazingly well. love that faucet, we have the same one in our old house turned rental property…I kind of wanted to take it with me when we left. Can’t wait for the reveal this week….I am sure it’s going to be amazing!
I am in love with ours as well! A lot easier than I thought- the dry time was the most painful : ) Putting the final touches on the post today… can’t wait to share and to see yours as well! We did it!
really love everything. could you please tell us or provide a tutorial on the concrete counter tops? Awesome!
Thank you so much! I can definitely follow up with a post on the countertops in the next couple of weeks : )
