Holy moly, Christmas is almost here! I am running a bit behind this year (please tell me I’m not the only one?) and decorating a house has proven much larger of a task than an apartment. Who would have thunk it : )
So, in an effort to finish up our Christmas trees, I went with two different options- a traditional Christmas tree skirt on our real tree (will be posted this week!) and this super easy version for our front room tree.
Just like most fake trees, the bottom of ours is less than magazine ready.
All I used for this project was:
- 4’x4′ piece of leftover material (should be about 4x the width of your base) – we used a metallic burlap pattern
- grocery bags
- twine or ribbon
- one nosey cat
Ideally this project would be done as you’re setting up the tree, but apparently I like to live on the edge and lift an already decorated tree into the air in hopes of nothing falling off. I somehow nailed it if you were concerned : )
Now listen really close to these really detailed directions:
Place the base of the tree in the center of your material with the material right side down.
Add grocery bags around the tree base.
Gather material around the base and tie with a ribbon or twine. Be careful not to accidentally wrap up the cat who loves plastic bags in there.
Sit back and enjoy!
How easy is that? I had all of the materials on hand, so this project cost $0 and only took 2-3 minutes. And that’s with lifting up the tree hulk-style. If you love the look and already own a skirt, you can even use it upside down and follow the same steps! Maybe next year I’ll have more time to build or sew something perfect, but for now this little bottom is doing the trick!
Whats left on your Christmas to-do list? I still have decorating and shopping to do, so be sure to stick around this week for more posts if you’re in the same boat as me : )

Actually, your solution is perfect!!! With the bows on the tree using he same material (or it looks the same in the pictures) it looks like you planned to do this all along!!!! Love it!!!!!
You’re right it is the same fabric : ) Thanks so much Susan!
That is such a great idea. I have a very similar tree and have been trying to figure out how to hide those little plastic feet. I’ll be trying this DIY project before week’s end.
By the way, I ran across your site after signing up for Click It Up a Notch’s Project 365 Challenge. Good luck with your 365 days of photos.
Thanks Angela! Hope you love how it turns out : ) Good luck to you as well! I’m very excited to start!
