Welcome back to week 2 of the One Room Challenge! If you’re here for the first time, we’re participating in a 6 week challenge hosted by Linda at Calling it Home to completely overhaul our office space! Last week we shared the pre-move in shots, the “I shoved furniture in here and closed the door” shots, and the embarrassing real life shots.
Today, I’m SO happy to share that we’ve managed to clear out all of the mess and got this room to a nice clean state to work with!
We went back and forth about the paint color, but I knew I wanted something light and bright since this room doesn’t receive too much natural light because of the trees. The final two options were Stonington Gray by BM, and Mercurial by PPG. We’ve used both in the house before, so I liked how it would tie into our current color scheme.
As you may have guessed by the first picture, Stonington Gray was the winner! The light and bright color had me at first roll.
Before slapin the bass paint on, we decided to rip out the old trim as well. We realized a while ago that we made a huge mistake when we originally purchased the house by not tearing out the trim and replacing when the floors were laid (still makes us shake our heads to this day!), and now we’re paying the price.
We would have much rather pulled it all off then and replaced it with a larger style instead of adding quarter-round to the entire space, but you live and you learn I suppose!
Replacing it is still a work in progress (baseboards you’re next!), but now it’s MUCH more our style, and although this is just one room in the works, and there’s a whole house to go, it feels good and we’ll just keep tackling things one room at a time.
We also managed to start tackling our next project, the large writing desk! We have the top assembled and ready for stain, but are still working on tackling the legs. We’re attempting to taper them without the proper tools, so wish us luck 🙂
Now that it’s so empty and clean looking, my wheels are a’spinnin 🙂 See you here next week for more progress!
