One Room Challenge Week 3 – Shopping & Progress

And just like that we’re halfway through! This ORC has been a bit of a whirlwind so far but I’m happy to share that we’ve made some progress and did a little shopping!

If you’re here for the first time, welcome! We’re participating in the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling it Home by making over our office in just 6 short weeks. If you’d like to get caught up, check out week 1 for our “before” and design plan, and week two for a little paint and trim update.

Psst. Once you’re done looking around here, be sure to head back to Calling it Home to find all of the amazing rooms that are being redone by amazing bloggers and designers!

This week we took a little break from the actual room to tackle a few fun things – finishing the writing table and picking out some chairs and accessories 🙂

First up, the table is officially built and I love it! It’s going to sit in the middle of the room with chairs on both sides as a workspace for both M and I to share. We found ourselves never sitting in our old office because there wasn’t enough space to actually work on, and instead we took up the dining room table every single time. Enter in our solution – a slightly smaller farmhouse table!

In my dreams I somehow thought we could manage to create some tapered legs, but without the right tools we’d end up with more “oops” pieces trying to get there than good ones. We settled on the chunky legs instead, but I’m still happy with how it turned out! A little stain and she will be good to go.

Now on to the shopping! What good is a table with no chairs? I feel like the shopping journey for this could be it’s own entire post, but we’ll keep it short. Basically, we ended up with at least two variations of each chair but finally have the winning ones (I hope, cross your fingers for M’s sake) on the way.

We envisioned one larger upholstered chair on one side, with two wood options on the other. After putting together the design plan for the room, I was stuck on the mint color for at least one of them! Although the first option we tried ended up being out of stock by the time I went to hit “buy”, this second option (which I think I like even better) will be here later this week. I’m so anxious to see how the color goes with everything going on in the room so far!

The second debacle was with the upholstered main chair. We shopped around a few places, and ended up bringing this beauty home from At Home last weekend.

Pretty, right? However, after really looking at the space once we have the shelves and table in the room, it was almost too big to be functional. We’d only have a few inches of clearance to get in and out of the chair, and with the holiday season right around the corner neither of us feel like the diet to make it work would be worth it 😛 Enter in option two, a more simple and smaller option that I’m thinking will do the trick!

Last but not least are some accessories. I don’t want to share too many so that the reveal is still a bit of a surprise, but I couldn’t help but bring home these fun plant holders! To be honest I have no idea what I’ll store in them once they’re hung- plants, vinyl rolls, stamps, random office accessories? Only time will tell, but I’m excited to get them hung up!

I’m loving the textures – rope, galvanized metal, wood and fabric galore oh my!

And that’s a wrap for one week! Next up we have to finish installing the trim and work on the shelving unit before we start to put it all back together again! And we just have 3 weeks left. Reminding ourselfs to breathe!

Ps. I’ll be visiting Paige this weekend out in Nebraska and will be sharing the fun from the trip over on Instagram if you’d like to follow along! She’s in such a cute part of town and has a fun colorful apartment so I’m excited to share 🙂

Prost!

Loooove how your table turned out! And love the chair options…looking forward to seeing your shelves too. Half the fun of ORC is to check out and drool over everyone else’s rooms too! Best of luck!
