You guys, it’s the freaking Catalina Wine Mixer of the blog world today! Except it happens (twice) every year. It’s One Room Challenge time. Week 1. Where plans are made and hopes are high. Cash me in week 4 and this story might be a little bit different. Updating a room in 5 short weeks is a bit crazy, but we’ve always had fun and loved the outcome! In case this is your first time stopping by, we’ve participated as a guest for the last 5 seasons, taking on two bathrooms, a guest bedroom, an office, and even a garage.
On top of that, we literally moved into new home less than a month ago. There are still boxes everywhere in site, yet we can’t stay away. So, in the interest of my new marriage and sanity, we decided to participate yet again, but take on a seemingly reasonable project in terms of square footage, the powder bath. Also known as a half bath, but turns out we’re fancy around these parts.
Today we’re chatting before’s and plans, so let’s get to it!
Our before is pretty standard. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, totally functional, but just not our style.
It’s a pretty standard builders bathroom, and we’d love to add a little pizzaz to it! Because who wouldn’t want their guests to be impressed while using the John? No one I want to be friends with, that’s for sure.
Our plan is a little bit concrete (see below, buh dum ch) and a little bit up in the air. We’re still in the new house haze and while we know we’re hoping to evolve a bit from our last house, we’re still in the middle of deciding what’s next. We’re kind of not quite a girl, not yet a woman if you will. I should not be writing this this late a night.
Here’s the basic plans of what we’re thinking.
1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9
We plan to replace the floors with those fun cement tile lookalikes ourselves (see above, terrible joke), replace the toilet, paint out the vanity a fun charcoal color, and replace the countertop with wood. A clean white vessel link and chrome accents will finish off that part of the project!
I’ve 99% of the way convinced M that we should wood plank the ceiling. Now accepting extra fingers being crossed to push me over the finish line.
The walls will get a fun TBD paint color and I’m leaning towards some picture ledges against that back wall with some colorful artwork like the Minted options above. A little bit different for a bathroom powder room, but I think it could add a little character to the small space! Top it off with a fun chunky mirror and new light fixture, and I think we’ll be able to call this space a wrap!
Week 1, you’ve officially not scared me, yet. Never mind the fact that our next few weekends are packed and the weekend before the reveal we’ll be in Vegas for 4 days. If it gets quiet around here, send wine 🙂
Before you get back to pretending you’re working hard, grab another cup of coffee and be sure to check out the amazing work of the designers and guest participants all playing along! Thanks so much for Linda at Calling at Home for hosting such a great event! Hope to see you back here to follow along each week!
I love doing powder rooms…you can make such a big impact, but it isn’t an overwhelming space to work on. It’s going to be lovely!
Your ORC makeovers are always SO good – excited to see how this powder room turns out! Love the floors, and totally got the joke even before I scrolled down (although I was originally thinking it could apply to a concrete counter). Anyways, have fun!
Thanks so much for the sweet note Nicole! And for getting my terrible joke haha can’t wait to share more!
I love your tile it is going to look great. Nice inspiration plans too, I can’t wait to follow along with you both over the next 6 weeks. Best wishes!!!!
Thanks so much Jennifer! We can’t wait to see how it all comes together 🙂
I always love your projects so I can’t wait to see how this turns out!
Thanks so much Danielle! You’re too sweet! 🙂
small changes will make huge impacts in this space. Like you said it isn’t bad it just needs some personal pizzazz! I love the idea of a wood planked wall, although it can make a space feel smaller sometime but getting fun and good lighting will help with that. Excited to see what you guys come up with!
