Welcome to week 5 of this crazy One Room Challenge! I can’t believe next week is already the reveal, but we’re moving right along!
Ps. Have you been checking out all of the amazing designers and participants over at Calling it Home each week? Some seriously stunning makeovers are happening! We love participating and playing along each season thanks to Linda!
This week we focused on the hardest part BY FAR of this entire project. Picking out a dang paint color. Normally, I know exactly what color I want before I even start a project. Sometimes I’ll throw a tester up on the wall, but options tend to confuse me, so once I commit, I commit. Until this room. I was so beyond stumped. M was completely fed up with my indecision, and I ended up essentially flipping a coin between 17 of my closest guesses.
A lot of the photos I was finding with similar cement tiles had white or off white walls. At first, that was what I was thinking, but as the project went on I knew I wanted something with a little bit more depth. So, after 50 different swatches, numerous blank stares, and one confused husband, I picked. It’s a color I’ve never used before, so I’m still getting used to it, but Benjamin Moore’s Cement Gray was the final decision!
What do you think of it next to the tile? I admit, part of the reason I chose it was because the word cement was in the name, and I was trying to match it to cement tile. It’s like picking a wine bottle by the fun label. Could be something delicious, could be something disastrous. (But let’s be real, we’d drink it anyways) Super legit design happening over here this week…
At first I wasn’t completely sold since it’s a completely different tone of gray than the tile and vanity, but I have to admit it’s growing on me.
I may even have some plans on other spaces it can go already 🙂
The second thing we painted this week was… the mirror! If you’ve been following along, we picked up this black mirror for $30 from Homegoods in our shopping travels.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep it black, or paint it out. Well, after standing back and staring at the room (does anyone else do this? I’m such a visual person I could stare at a space for hours moving things around in my head!) we decided to pick a bright, clean, white.
We didn’t want to lose the character of the wood underneath the new paint, so I took a sanding block and got an arm workout distressing this version to mimic the original.
And, since we’re at risk of sharing too much before the big reveal next week, we will leave it at that! I can’t wait to show how everything comes together 🙂
Last on the list:
- Caulk Trim
- Hang Mirror
- Hang Picture Ledges
- Add Artwork
- Add Cabinet Hardware
Oh, and I’m leaving for Vegas in 24 hours. Super excited for a vacation with friends, but when we get back it’s full on crunch time! See you here next week for all of the pretty photos!
I love your new tile on the floor and that mirror is beautiful! Excited to see your powder room on reveal day next week! Let’s do this! XOXO, Sarah
Cannot wait to see the REVEAL! This room is really coming together! LOVE LOVE the floor!
I have a hard time picking a paint color too! I love picking colors, but sometimes it looks different once it’s painted on the wall. I think the color you chose looks great, though!
