And we’re finally here! Week 6 – where we share all of the photos of the space that has kicked our butts the last few weeks (and let’s be real, up to 30 seconds before we started snapping pictures).
This ORC may have been the smallest space that we’ve done so far, but it was not without it’s challenges. In true Sypsie fashion, I realized while editing these pictures that I hung the frames wrong, but I suppose that’s not as bad as leaving my camera lens on the counter for every photo of our guest bathroom makeover π You win some, you lose some!
Mix crazy work schedules with busy weekends, a trip to Vegas over the weekend that I’m still recovering from (you win Vegas, you win), a last minute printing job gone wrong, and just moving into a new house, this room was getting a major side eye from us. Often. BUT – now that it’s done, we’re so excited to share the first room that’s checked off of the list in our new home and we couldn’t be happier about that.
First off, here’s the room before we started.
And here’s what it looks like now!
It’s not typical for such a small space, but since we had fun tile on the floors and added the wood shiplap on the ceilings, we added some photo ledges to balance everything out in between!
Three cheers for the pretty trees all over our property for some last minute flowers!
This room is kind of tucked in the center of the house and with no windows, it’s always super dark (and challenges your photography skills!). I love how the wood tones warm it up, and even at night it gives off a welcoming vibe (as goofy as that is to say about a bathroom) that I’m hoping we’re able to emulate throughout the new house!
Thanks so much for stopping by and for Linda at Calling it Home for hosting this fun event! UPDATE: all of the sources for everything we used is below! But first, be sure to check out all of the amazing designers and other guest participants before you head out π

That tile is gorgeous, and I love the sink and vanity so much.
what an awesome powder room! i love the ceiling so much!
Ohhh I love this! The wood on the ceiling and the tile on the floor tie it all together perfectly!
Love it! This turned out so gorgeously. Love the unexpectedness of the picture ledges!
This look amazing! I love your floors and that picture/art ledge too. I’ve never seen that in a bathroom before – it’s really creative. Everything came together so beautifully. Great job, CoCo
Wow, it’s all just so beautiful! You turned a blank slate into a gorgeous bathroom. I love your mirror and light fixture choice!
Thanks Bre π We really appreciate it!

Thanks Nicole! It’s a lot packed into a little space but I love how they play off of each other π
Amazing transformation, great job!
Thanks Christy π
Just love the transformation! The wood, tile, blue and white work beautifully together. Super awesome.
Thanks for the sweet comment Kate! We’re so happy to have a completed room!
Great job with this powder room! It is so fresh and clean! Enjoy!
Thanks so much Nicki! π
Love the tile!Where is it from?
Thanks Kate! It’s from Home Depot (ordered online!) and is called Twenties Vintage Tile π
What a fun powder room! ditto the comment above – I know you said you’ll post sources soon, but anxious to hear where tile is from!
Hi Mary! Thanks so much for stopping by! We ordered it online from Home Depot, and it’s called Twenties Vintage π
I wished you described- where things are from like the sink and fixtures & the paint color on the cabinets.
Beautiful!! What kind of wood did you use for the counter?
What a beautiful transformation! Nailed it and I love the countertops!!!
I have featured your new room on a round up of my favorite ORC bathroom makeovers!

congrats
Love this makeover! What’s the paint color?
Hi! Love your design! Where did you get your vanity light bar? Do you know the style #?
Hi Tracy! We purchased it at Lowes π the link to it is: https://m.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-Winsbrell-3-Light-9-24-in-Brushed-Nickel-Bell-Vanity-Light/50333857 Thanks so much for stopping by!
Love what you have done. What color did you use on the cabinets?
Thanks Shelly! It’s Anne Sloan chalk paint in Graphite π
Beautiful room. What paint color is on the walls and what brand of paint is it.
Thanks
Hi Martie! Thank you! The walls are Benjamin Moore Cement Gray π
Beautiful room. Would you please let me know what kind of sink you used? I’m looking at this type of sink for our powder room but worried that it might feel too high. Is it 6″ tall from the bottom to top? Many of these sinks seem like they would be huge but then look great in photos. Thanks for the help!
Hi Karen! Absolutely! The link of the exact sink we used is below π We’ve had no problem with the height (I think this one is about 4″ off the counter) and we love it so far! Thanks for stopping by! https://m.lowes.com/pd/KOHLER-Vox-White-Vessel-Rectangular-Bathroom-Sink-with-Overflow-Drain-Included/999997992
Hi! What paint color is on the walls?
Thank you!
Hi Denise! It’s Benjamin Moore Cement Gray π
What kind of counter top is that? Where can I find it
Hi Bibiana! It’s an edge glued board from Lowes and has held up great! As long as it’s sealed properly it shouldn’t give you any problems π
Hi Sypsie! I can’t seem to find what you sealed this wood counter top with. Is there a specific product that has worked well for you?
Hi Rachel! We put about 5 coats of Poly on ours, but there are some great marine grade sealers out there if you’re worried about lots of water splashing! With the large sink, water rarely got on ours, but I was never worried about it even if it did after sealing it π Hope that helps!
Love the mirror. I am doing a guest bathroom and it would be perfect. Where is it from?
Thank you
Denise
Thanks Denise! It’s from Homegoods π It was black and I just painted it white and sanded a few spots to add a distressed look. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Hello! I absolutely love the bathroom. I think you were going to post where you purchased everything. I think I missed it – is there any way you can post the list again? I am particularly interested in the tile and the vanity. Thanks!
Everything is perfect and beautiful. This is really an amazing transformation. I like this bathroom.
What a transformation! I love it! The cabinets in the “before” picture look very similar to the color of our cabinets. It’s like a faded whitewash or something? It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what color it is. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes I don’t. π
Where did you get the picture ledges??
Hi Christine! The picture ledges were a DIY project where we used a 1×3 as the base, and a 1×2 on the front to hold the frames. The shelves are a bit narrow as the room isn’t huge, but I’d recommend using a 1×4 or larger if you have more space to better hold the frames π Thanks!
I am curious about the picture ledges too. How deep are they? Do they get in the way when trying to use the toilet? Beautiful space!
Thanks so much Mary! We made them from 1×3 and 1×2 lumber. We made them narrow enough to not get in the way, but in order to balance the frames better we’d recommend using a little bit wider of a base if you have the space π Thanks again for stopping by!
Love the floor tile and would like to know the manufacturer, etc.
Also, do you answer your readers questions at all? Thanks
Hi Charlotte, The floor tile is from Home Depot and is called Merola Twenties Vintage. I am working on a few back-end updates to make the user experience the best it can be on the blog so apologies if your comment didn’t get answered as soon as you’d hoped. I try to answer everything within a few days, but occasionally something gets missed. A resource list is next on my list and I appreciate you stopping by.
Sorry for my previous snarky comment as I see now you’ve answered some questions. It would be helpful, though, to have sources cited on the actual post. Thanks
I just came across this on Pinterest, amazing transformation!
Thanks so much Roxanne! π
Did you use wax over the vanity after you chalk painted with Annie Sloan’s Graphite or some other type of protectant. I’ve heard that it is not advisable to use wax in the bathroom so I’m curious what you used. Thank you for sharing your awesome bathroom project!
Hi Cristina! We used a water-based matte poly for easier cleaning π Thanks so much for stopping by!
Lovely bathroom! What is the vanity counter made of? Wood? What finish did you use on it?
I’m curios what your counter top is. Is it real wood? If so how is it holding up?
Hi Ashley! It is real wood and it’s holding up great! We added a few layers of poly sealer to the top and since the sink is mounted higher than the countertop, we don’t get much standing water. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Looks great! I’m replicating the shelves with frames for my wife, and I was just wondering the distance to the floor from each shelf! Thanks!
Hi. I love love this bathroom. I didn’t see where you got your countertop? Also the wood you used on the bathroom Ceiling, where did you get that and what did you treat it with??
Hi, love everything about this bathroom. I’ve noticed you didn’t mention where you got the toilet. If it’s new could provide the source. Thanks.
I love the counter top. What wood did you make that out of?
Gorgeous! Curious where you got the shiplap from and did you stain it?
Thanks Katie! We bought basic tongue and groove planks from Home Depot and stained them before hanging them π
I may be too obsessed with this and have another question. Iβm terrible at buying stains ββοΈ But do you remember which stain you used?
We used a mix of 3 different stains (all Minwax from Home Depot as well!) and made a batch for the counter, ceiling, and a few other projects. We bought an empty metal stain can and mixed roughly 4oz. of Special Walnut, 4 oz. of Cherry, and 8oz. of Weathered Oak together π
Love this! What color paint did you use on the walls?
Thanks Katrina! Itβs Cement Gray by Benjamin Moore π
Beautiful bathroom! I love the shelving idea. How did you attached the shelves to the wall? How much space is between the two shelves? Thank you
Thanks so much Silvia! The shelves are attached with pocket holes from the base into the studs and there’s about 2 feet in between them! I used my frames as a guide for that part, and the frames are also attached to the wall for stability and so they don’t fall down on anyone π
What kind of wood did you get for the counter top? Love the design!a
What color is the grout and what size spacing did you use for the tiles?
Hi Elaine! We used Bright White and I believe the spacers were 1/8″ π Thanks so much for stopping by!
love your project. How tall is the cabinet? we are having one built and I am trying to figure out the best height for a vessel sink.
Hi Sypsie….wondering what spacing you, used between picture shelves?
What did you use to create your picture ledge? And what is the depth? Your room has inspired me to renovate my downstairs powder room. I can’t change my floor tile but I’m adding a tile look wall covering (similar to your floor tile) on vanity/toilet wall for a bold touch.
Hi Dana! The picture ledges are just made of preprimed wood! I’d recommend a 1×4 for the base, and a 1×2 for the front ledge. I just used pocket holes to screw them into the studs and the side walls. Love the tile look wall covering idea! Best of luck with your project and thanks so much for the comment!
I love how you re-did your bathroom! Can you tell me where you purchased the wood vanity counter top? Thank you.
Thank you so much! It’s just an edge glued project board from Lowes that we cut to size and added the sink cutout too. With a few coats of a good sealant you’re good to go, and the wood only cost around $30! We’ve used them on two different bathrooms (half bath and master so both heavily used) and they’ve held up great!
Do you have a tutorial on using the edge glued project board? I have a similar sink set-up to your before picture and would love to do this to modernize my space but can’t find any instructions. Any guidance you have is greatly appreciated!!! This is a beautiful bathroom!
Do you have a tutorial on how to do this? I would love to try this on my bathroom vanity (it is very similar to your before photo), but can’t seem to find any instructions online. Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated!! Absolutely love the way this bathroom turned out!! Great job!

Love all of this! Iβm trying to emulate because I have a giant powder room and need to fill it with things like this.
Any recs on the plants (brand, etc.) if those are artificial or real?
Hi Ben! Thank you! These were just clippings from a tree we had on our lot, but I would check your local craft store, Pottery Barn or even Magnolia for something similar π
I have a bathroom very similar. What size picture frames did you use here? How far apart did you put the picture ledges? Thanks!
Hello. I am wondering if the wood you set your sink on was an in-stock butcher block piece or a diy item. I didnt’ see it on your list of materials. Any information you could provide would be appreciated. How is the wood portion holding up? Did you poly it with an particular product? Looks amazing!
Hi! Thanks so much for the question! The top is made from an edge-glued panel. I found mine at Lowes and they come in a variety of sizes! When we lived in this home we had no issues with the wood top. If you add a few coats of poly on top and caulk around the sink, it should hold up nicely! As a bonus, if there ever happened to be damage, the top could be sanded down and refinished as needed. Have a wonderful day!
