Here we are again! It’s our favorite time of the year, One Room Challenge time π We’ve participated in the 6 week challenge six times so far, and each time it’s pushed us to finish a space from start to finish in a short time period, which seems to be the magic sauce behind us actually getting things done!
For anyone new here, the One Room Challenge is a bi-weekly event hosted by Linda at Calling it Home where designers and participants (go check out all of the amazing week 1 posts when you’re done here!) post weekly updates for 6 weeks from the beginning of a makeover project to the end. Week one is all about plans for us, so let’s get to it!
We’re so excited to take on a new-to-us space, a nursery! We found out we we’re expecting and due in January, so this challenge is just what we need to get our (aka my extremely tired) butts in gear. Although the little guy won’t sleep in here until a few months after he makes his debut, I’m excited to get it set for him whenever that time does come so we don’t have to worry about it through sleep deprived eyes π
I have of course confused the heck out of my husband, M, by changing the design for this space roughly 431 times, but this time we’re ready to make purchases and roll with it!
The starting point for this particular design was that fun wallpaper as an accent wall. We were at the store getting paint mixed for another project, and to kill the time I started flipping through the wallpaper books. Enter this watercolor buffalo check goodness and all the heart eyes. We’ve never hung wallpaper and M is already skeptical, so that one tiny portion of this project might be a huge challenge all in itself ha!
We’re planning on softening the bold paper with some soft dusty blue curtains and walls, a big cozy rocking chair and some fun pops within the artwork and other fabrics. On top of the nursery design we’re hoping to get the closet baby ready with some shelving and organizers perfect for tiny people sized things π Our main vision is a playful space with a few fun pops of color, while still being a relaxing little haven for our little guy to grow up in.
We also recently moved, so the room we’re going to be working on is a blank slate and here’s where it stands right now.
Besides implementing the design here’s the list we’re going to be tackling over the next few weeks!
- Remove carpet and add new hardwood flooring
- Replace baseboards and door trim
- Add overhead lighting (none exists right now) and hang light fixture
- Paint ceiling & walls
- Hang wallpaper
- Assemble crib (from stories I’ve heard, this one deserves it’s own bullet)
- Refinish dresser (this one is going to get a little makeover and will make it’s way in here) and add a changing pad frame
- Hang curtains and artwork
- Build book ledges
- Purchase all the things
- Extra Credit:Β Redesign closet for baby items
- Everything else that I am currently forgetting/add along the way π
Anddddd here we go! Per usual, we’ll need every second of the weeks ahead to get this one to the finish line. See you back here next week with some updates!
