Welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge! This is our 7th time participating in the 6 week makeover challenge hosted by Linda at Calling it Home, and today we’re back for a quick update on the progress made in our little boy’s nursery so far!
First things first, check out the design for the space and before photos if you haven’t already, shown in our week 1 post! To get the project started, we decided to prioritize the floors and prepping the walls for paint. We have a huge post coming about the floors we chose for the entire house (after the ORC ends most likely, because, well, I’m pregnant and tired and the ORC pace is no joke ha!), but today we’re sharing a little sneak peek!
We knew we wanted hardwoods throughout, and settled on a mid-tone solid wood option that we luckily were able to coordinate installers for right away. There are still small parts that need finishing, but for the most part thanks to a few late nights, the floors are in!
Goodbye old carpet, hello gorgeous new floors! These ones officially get all the heart eye emojis and make me want to do cartwheels. Probably not advisable for the moment, but it’s the thought that counts 🙂
Next up was tackling all of the tan sandy walls that were happening in the room.
Painting ceilings are never the most fun, but going from this medium beige color to a bright flat white (we buy a white can of paint and use it straight from the can – much better coverage than ceiling paint in my opinion!) has made such a difference in this room already! Much lighter and brighter feeling.
Although there’s a huge double window in this room, the view and sunlight is blocked by a huge pine tree so we’re hoping the white ceiling helps reflect what sunlight does come in here despite all of the fun patterns we have planned.
Speaking of patterns, last but not least we prepped the accent wall for our buffalo check wallpaper! I’ve been an ordering machine lately, and it just came in the other day.
How fun does that look against the wood floors? It’s the watercolor buffalo check option from Magnolia Home, and we were able to order it through Home Depot (and it was on sale!). I can’t wait to get it all up! Hopefully it’s exactly like what I’m picturing in my head and those don’t turn out to be famous last words 🙂 I’ve heard stories about wallpaper being a marriage test as well and this will be our first attempt with it – wish us luck haha!
Okay I’m officially tired after one action packed week – and just a few more to go! Here’s where we’re at with our list:
Remove carpet and add new hardwood flooring- Replace baseboards and door trim
- Add overhead lighting (none exists right now) and hang light fixture
Paint ceiling& walls- Hang wallpaper
- Assemble crib (from stories I’ve heard, this one deserves it’s own bullet)
- Refinish dresser (this one is going to get a little makeover and will make it’s way in here) and add a changing pad frame
- Hang curtains and artwork
- Build book ledges
Purchase allthe things – Half done!- Extra Credit:Â Redesign closet for baby items
- Everything else that I am currently forgetting/add along the way
Next week we hope to have the wallpaper up and have all of the walls painted. Once all of the fun things I’ve ordered come in, we’ll share what we end up liking and keeping as well and hopefully this blank canvas of a room starts looking more and more like a playful nursery for our new little one!
Thanks so much for stopping by and we hope to see you back here next week! Until then, be sure to check out all of the amazing progress from the designers and participants this round 🙂
Oh loving that fabric and a fresh coat of white on the walls are always best! looking forward to week 3!
I love love love the wallpaper! I considered doing navy buffalo check on one wall in our daughter’s bedroom that we’re making over, but her bedding has checks too. But I just keep seeing more and more checked wallpaper that I love!
You guys have knocked the big stuff out – way to go!
Floors look great! I am sure the white will brighten things up and love the buffalo check wallpaper.
You installed these floors? Wow! The fabric you’ve chosen looks so good, I had no idea something like that was available through Home Depot.
Those floors and that buffalo check! Be still my heart…I am loving your space. 🙂
I love the floor choice and new paint is always so refreshing. I can’t wait to see the final result. Jess at Just Jess
