Baby Boy Nursery – One Room Challenge – Week 5

So this week I had originally planned on sharing some last minute details and wrapping this room up, but with an extra week added to this seasons One Room Challenge, we decided to tackle a few extra projects! I’ll share the smaller ones next week, but this week we’re going to talk closet πŸ™‚

We had added the closet to our list as a to-do with an asterisk just incase we over committed ourselves (my energy level is anything but impressive when I get home from work), but with the extra week we’re moving forward full steam.

To start with, we had a standard hanging bar, with a 2nd wire shelf hung so high that my short self couldn’t reach it, so more storage for small baby clothes was definitely needed πŸ™‚

So far we’re in the major progress stage of this project, but M already has the new trim all up, and the old shelving has been demo’d and the wall repair mud is drying as we speak!

In terms of design, we opted to purchase a closet organizer over building one this time, but decided to give it a little pop with some dramatic paint to match the wallpaper, and some basket storage to corral all of the little baby socks, hats and miscellaneous items I’m sure will accidentally make their way into my shopping cart soon πŸ™‚

I all of a sudden need all of the infant sized flannels… Major heart eyes over here! Back to the design – we picked this bold color, Black Beauty from the new 2018 Benjamin Moore collection, and are so excited to see the pop with the white shelving. Some softer wicker baskets, a fun hamper to make laundry look more exciting than it is, and some non-traditional pulls will finish off the mini project within a project.

I think the closet organizer will be perfect for our little guy right away, and will be able to grow with him as he gets bigger! There’s also always the option to add drawers into the cubbies instead of shelves, so I like that we can switch it up easily if we thought it would be more practical that way. Luckily he has a dresser in the room as well for more storage, so between the two we’re hoping he will be set for years to come.

OK back to work!

More to come next week as we keep plugging away πŸ™‚ Also an update on those smaller projects we talked about, and the electrician is officially booked to add overhead lighting to the space so we can hang the fun rope chandelier!

The only outlier right now is the rocking chair. We were hoping to have it delivered this week, but it’s looking like it will be a feat just to get it here by the end of next week- cross your fingers with us that the timing works out so we can have everything set for the reveal.

Here’s where we’re at after week 5!

  • Remove carpet and add new hardwood flooring
  • Replace baseboards and door trim
  • Add overhead lighting (none exists right now) and hang light fixture
  • Paint ceiling & walls
  • Hang wallpaper
  • Assemble crib
  • Refinish dresser (this one is going to get a little makeover and will make it’s way in here) and add a changing pad frame
  • Hang curtains and artwork
  • Build book ledges
  • Purchase all the things
  • Mirror project
  • Recover old footstool
  • Hang & create mobile
  • Customize curtains
  • Redesign closet for baby items
  • Everything else that I am currently forgetting/add along the way

It may just be one bullet we got to cross off this week, but it was a big one so we’re excited about the progress!
