After moving into our new home just over a year ago, we knew that one thing we wanted to purchase was some new living room furniture, including two new couches! Our IKEA sectional was perfect at our last house, but with a different sized room with a different flow, we really wanted to switch up the layout. After doing lots of shopping for some neutral colored options (we decided we could always add pops of color through accessories and change them up as much as we’d like if we purchased neutral furniture), I figured we’d share our shopping journey for anyone else that’s on the hunt, including why we went with the couches that we did!
To keep it simple, everything listed is in order of price from low to high for any budget!
It’s probably no surprise that a few IKEA options popped up on this list, but can you even believe that the first one is only $229? I haven’t been there recently to test out the quality, but for the price this is definitely a cute option! The 7th on the list is also from IKEA, and is a total look for less for some of the Pottery Barn options I’ve seen.
There’s no doubt that mid century modern is a huge influence on a lot of the furniture out there right now, but as much as I love the look I always seem to gravitate towards the more cozy looking couches that look like you could make yourself right at home wherever you are. Option 12 from West Elm was a top contender while we were searching because it looks like it’s a little bit of both!
14 / 15 /Β 16 / 17 / 18 / 19 / 20
I love some of the fancy leg options in this group, from the exposed wood in 15 and 20, to the unique shapes in 14 and 19. The last two are a total splurge from Crate and Barrel, but I love the modern take on the tufted and mid century looks so threw them in for fun!
Unfortunately we weren’t able to sit in all of the couches since some are only available online, but the reviews can be so extremely helpful, especially for large purchases and are an amazing tool that you can take advantage of either way.
With all of the fabric options for a lot of these, there’s really countless couch options on this list, making it so easy to get the exact look we wanted.Β In the end, we went with, drumroll please… the York Slipcovered Roll Armed sofa (number 18!) from Pottery Barn!
Pros:
We loved that we could get the extra deep versions and pick out the exact upholstery that we wanted, plus the 3 cushion option (more flip-ability options if there happened to be a stain that won’t come out than a bench cushion π ). They were a little more of a splurge, but we bought them during an amazing sale which saved us a ton. The fact that they were slipcovered was also a huge pro since we were just about to bring a little baby into the world and I’ve heard that they’re not always the cleanest little things π Being able to pull off whatever gets dirty and either launder it or bring it to the dry cleaners (tip: read the care instructions on each Pottery Barn fabric sample to see how to care for it before buying!) was exactly what we were looking for.
Cons:
The only con to the entire process so far was the 10+ week wait time, but there are other fabric options that take less! We of course just chose a fabric that took the longest. Shocking π
We’ve had them for a few months now, and I can happily say that I have 0 regrets and they’re extremely comfortable so far. I even slept on one for weeks when we first brought Duke home! We have yet to spill anything worthy of completely removing a cover, but they’ve held up through our dog repeatedly digging on them and our daily abuse use.
But as always, that’s just what works in our home! Whatever your budget or design style is, hopefully our little shopping trip helped you find some fun neutral couch options for your space!
