Gray Backsplash Ideas

One of the last things we had to pick out for our kitchen was a fun backsplash to finish it off! We went to store after store from big box store to mom and pop tile shops, and ended up loving a few so wanted to share some of the gray backsplash ideas we came across!

The first thing we did was narrow it down to a color – After choosing white and wood cabinets with a white countertop, we wanted to pick up some of the gray veining in the quartz to tie it all together. We easily could have done a white tile as well, but we wanted to add a little depth to the space so gray it was!

Our first shopping trip was to narrow down a general shape and color. I liked how the first two options weren’t just a flat tile, and had some 3D and movement to them, but of course got distracted by that fun hex pattern! We decided it would be a little too busy in our space and was over budget, but it could be perfect for a cut out above a cooktop or in a bathroom. Definitely one to mentally save for later projects 🙂

The last shopping trip we took was where the magic happened. We scanned the store, took tons of samples out, and narrowed it down to these three. The left had a handmade look to them that we loved, the middle was a larger more unique shape, and the right was that lovely hex pattern again that had me swooning before. After some hemming and hawing, the left was the winner! The cost per square foot was half of what we had seen previously (always keep shopping until you find something that’s perfect!) so we decided to bring two samples home.

When we were in the store I was so certain that the light gray would work, but when we got home the darker gray was the clear winner! The light gray blended in too much for the look we were going for, so we ordered the darker color in the larger 3×12 size. I know I’ve said it a few times before, but if you can, always always take samples home with you since all lighting is different and what you could be sold in on a store, could look completely different at home 🙂

And here’s a little sneak peek of how all of the progress is going! Excuse the mess 🙂 After months and months of no kitchen we got excited to move stuff in. We didn’t want to give too much away since next up is the final reveal, but we’ve had a lot of fun sharing the progress of this space over the last few weeks! If you’d like to recap, here’s a few of the highlights!

  • We demoed (well, Matt did, I found out I was pregnant right before ha!) cabinets and soffits
  • We designed
  • Cabinets were installed, and delayed and installed again
  • Countertop shopping and tips we learned along the way
  • Coming soon… the final reveal!

We’ll see you back here soon for all of the finished pictures, and can’t wait to share all of the rest of the details!
