Hooooooly moly. How is it already week 5? If this is your first time stopping by, welcome! We’re taking on our laundry room/mudroom space for this spring’s One Room Challenge as a participant. Meaning… we’re renovating a room in just 5 weeks over 6 posts and we only have one week left! Hence the holy moly. This one is definitely going to come down to the wire.
If you’d like to catch up, here are the links to the before and design plans, and our progress from weeks 2, 3 and 4.
A little refresher on the original state of this space…
We’ve come a long way, but still have a ways to go!
Last week we were debating between a skinny locker wall with a built-in bench, or a freestanding option on the wall opposite the washer and dryer. The room isn’t very wide, so I definitely don’t want anything too deep that would make doing laundry a pain in the rear.
After taking a poll on both the blog post and via Instagram, the freestanding bench was the clear winner! I quickly ordered some fun legs for the bench (Amazon Prime to the rescue with this limited time left!) and am SO happy with the decision!
I ordered these hairpin legs off of Amazon in the raw steel 16″ size, and made the most simple bench ever by simply screwing them into a 2×10 board. I still need to sand and stain the wood, but I’m loving the look already!
I’m thinking a light colored stain or whitewash for the wood top, but am going to play with a few colors before I fully commit.
I also did a little shopping during our travels the past few days, and grabbed a few wall frames that have a gray toned wood frame, which should tie in nicely with the floors.
The second update for this week is all of the new trim work, including the mudroom “locker” wall above the bench. Again I wanted to keep it super skinny so it didn’t intrude into the room, so opted for more of a moulding look with a small shelf on top.
I was originally planning on doing 4 hooks, but 3 just seemed to fit so much nicer, so Kuma our puppy will just have to find somewhere else to hang her leash when she comes home π
Once it’s all caulked and the nail holes are filled, it’s going to get a coat of a medium sage green paint – Benjamin Moore’s Carolina Gull. I can’t wait to see how it plays off of the colors in the rug, and think it will add a fun focal point in the otherwise neutral room.
Okay, I’m going to get right back to it so we can attempt to make this deadline! The closet doors and shelf above the washer and dryer have yet to be started, so wish us luck to pull it all together in time π
Pst. Be sure to check out the amazing designers and other participants in this seasons ORC! They’re amazing as always!
I love how it’s looking and thank goodness for Amazon Prime. I’m looking forward to the final reveal!
