After months and months of this crazy project actually happening, lots of posts sharing the details along the way (if you want to start at the beginning for more detail, we talked designing our kitchen, cabinet install part 1 and part 2, picking out countertops and backsplash) it’s finally kitchen makeover reveal time!
And you know what? This is one of those posts that I thought I’d be SO excited to share, and I truly am, because this kitchen was such a major labor of love, but photographing it was such a goofy task because after hauling butt to get our house ready to sell on my own with a 6 month old, I had about 5 minutes to take pictures before the movers showed up!
I suppose that’s par for the course with this project though. One day maybe I’ll muster up the words to describe our experience and review everything that happened honestly, but today I just want to focus on a few pictures and the fact that this project FINALLY finished and we got to enjoy it for a few months before passing it on to another lovely family to make memories in.
Before I get all sentimental about how we gave our little guy his first bath in that massive sink, let’s just get to it 🙂
Compared the the original kitchen, the cabinet layout actually didn’t change all that much. We had a few ideas starting out, but in the end this layout got us the most cabinet and counter space for the size of the room. If it’s not broken don’t fix it!
What we did move around was the appliances. The cooktop from the island to the back wall, the fridge over next to the wall oven as our “working wall” all of which we were super happy about! Oh, and added a wine fridge and pot filler, which were two of my favorite splurges 🙂
One spot we haven’t shared much because we could never quite figure out what we wanted to do with it was this side of the fireplace, which is actually a two sided fireplace that goes into the family room as well. We ended up putting two chairs in front of it and it was our favorite spot to sit and drink coffee together in the morning.
The fireplace was a project we never got to before putting that for sale sign up (which was original to when we bought the home) but I liked how both sides were brick after our family room side makeover, so it wasn’t as high on the priority list at the time. I would have loved to replace that mantle for a chunky wood one like in the family room, and maybe added some fun concrete look tile to match the half bath floor!
And just for fun, here’s one last before and after shot!

As always, thanks so much for following along this crazy journey! I have a few more old home posts to share this year, and the ORC starts up in just a couple of weeks so we’ll chat new home really soon!
What a warm and inviting kitchen. It’s refreshing to see wood again.
Thank you! Wood definitely warms up a space and we love using it!
Would you mind sharing the dimensions of your island?
I believe it was 25”x75” roughly!
Love your kitchen!!!! Would you mind sharing the details of your backsplash! I LOVE IT!!!
Hi Tracy! It was from a local place in SE Michigan, but is very similar to a few at Lowes if you search gray subway 🙂 It’s a glazed mid-tone gray 3×12 subway with more of a hand made edge if that helps as well! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Lovely!
Where did you get those chairs?
Hi Kim! These chairs are from IKEA 🙂
Would love it if you could share the name of your white paint colours please and thanks!
