Welcome to Sypsie! So glad you’re here. Pour yourself a glass of whatever sounds right and hope you stay a while : ) We love all things design and decor, and have a passion for making over furniture!
To get a little hint of our style, be sure to check out our home tour! If you’re interested in working together, please reach out to us at sypsiedesigns@gmail.com and we will get back to you asap!
Who are we?
Hi, I’m Jodie! For some background, Sypsie originally started out when my sister, Paige, and I got a chance to live together in our 20’s and rented a little home in our hometown just outside of Detroit, Michigan. We loved decorating our house and spending our nights in the garage working on furniture so we decided to start Sypsie as our little creative adventure to share the fun!
Fast forward three years, and Sypsie has evolved into my husband, Matt (aka M) and my new adventure- homeownership! We have already renovated one 1970s colonial, and now are on to our next adventure, putting some character into a 1990s builders basic special! We tackle things room by room and slowly make our way around. I generally play designer, and M goes along with my crazy and puts in the hours as a contractor, plumber, electrician, or whatever else is needed : ) We learn along the way (in our home, and with this blog!) and hope you’re able to take away some inspiration or maybe even try a project out yourself!
What’s a Sypsie?
All stereotypes aside (no, we are not saving up for a huge pink wedding dress, no matter how much Paige loves bedazzles), Paige and I are proud of our Bohemian heritage and combined gypsy sisters into a fun title. Plus, Serman or Solish didn’t roll off the tongue as well (buh-dum-ch).
Thanks for visiting our site!
Prost! (aka Cheers!)

I am from the mitten, too! Love your site and all your crafty projects!
Thanks Ashley! We love yours too! Your pup is too cute and love the work it Wednesday idea : )
It’s so nice to find some fellow Michigan girls in the blogging world! I lived around the D for 11 years. Now I’m on the “west coast”. Beautiful blog!!
Hi. I love your posts. YOu did one on a Garage Workbench and there are 2 funky lights you have that look like a light cage and something metal. Could you explain what you used for those lights????
I love your Ikea Pong chair cover idea. Do you have instructions for the matching stool?
Happy New Years from Penticton, BC
Julie 🙂
Hi Julie! Happy New Years to you as well! Unfortunately we don’t have instructions for the stool, but laying the cushion out on the fabric as a guide, and adding a couple of inches to those measurements should work the same way! You can either create a fold over enclosure to slip the cushion in, or hand sew the opening similar to a pillow 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by!
My pleasure! Thank you so much and I am happy I found you!
All the very best in 2017!
Julie 🙂
Hi! I’m a friend of Janet Mcwilliams and saw some before and after pics of a bathroom. Loved it. I live in Fenton and would love some help in decorating. If you would be interested, let me know!
Great Work!! Love your ideas!
Hi Toni! Thanks so much for the nice message! I’ll shoot you over an email this weekend if that works 🙂 Talk to you soon!
Great blog! Could you please tell me the gray and blue colors used in the garage makeover? Thank you!
Hi Christine! Thanks so much! It’s PPG Mercurial and BM Van Deusen Blue 🙂
Hello,
I am working on creating my blog site and I have referenced your site in my blog as one of your one room challenge rooms became my inspiration piece for our office/library when we moved into our new home! I am stuck a little at the part where I have a Subscribe form successfully showing up via GoDaddy email marketing, yet I cannot figure out how to see who has signed up and furthermore, how you automatically send out emails when a new post has been added? What am I missing? Any help would be great! I love your designs and your site! Thank you!
Hello.
Love your shiplap alternative.
But I’m having trouble finding the floor underlayment you used?
I know it’s been a while. Maybe they don’t carry it anymore?
Help?
Hi Lisa! Thank you! It’s usually where the 4×8 plywood sheets are, and it’s the 1/4″ thick wood option. I believe it’s gone up to $13-$14 per sheet now. Hope that helps!
